SWATCH SUNDAY — Dipping into my Untrieds

Hello lovelies & happy Sunday! I was trying really hard to figure out what I should share for this weeks Swatch Sunday post, & realized I have a WHOLE lot of untried nail polish I have bought over the year (or was given to me) that I’ve never actually worn. Even once. So I thought it would be fun to grab a few of those neglected shades for this weeks Swatch post! So I posted a poll on my Instagram asking did people want to see Spring shades or untrieds, & while it was pretty close, 55% vs 45%, Untrieds won!

So let’s get to the polishes!

Deborah Lippmann Polka Dots & Moonbeams (Staccato Collection Spring 2013)

First shade up we have is one that was gifted to me from my Mom after a Winners trip — this is Deborah Lippmann Polka Dots & Moonbeams, which is a milky white polish with mini matte black hex glitters.

The first thing I think of when I see this polish is cookies & cream, which is probably why I’ve never worn it until now. But I liked it a lot better on my nails than in the bottle. However removal was ATROCIOUS! I had little black glitter everywhere & they were hard to get off (which you’ll be able to see in some of my other swatch pictures.) I definitely recommend a peel off base coat with this one rather than trying to take it off with nail polish remover.

(Also I looked up the whole collection, & the other two shades in the collection look very similar to these Ardene shades from 6 years ago so now I have to do a comparison with this guy!)

China Glaze This is Ranunculus (The Arrangement collection Spring 2019)

I picked up this beautiful shimmery blue shade at my local Sally Beauty last Fall. I feel like this is the kind of polish China Glaze does really well — the almost sheer shimmery frosted shade. The brush on the bottle I got was a bit messed up (probably because it was on clearance) but the formula was really easy to apply.

I only used 2 coats for this look, but I probably could have done 3 for full opacity. You can kind of see a bit of patchiness along the side & my tips. But honestly I like the light look of minimal coats. It feels very airy & fresh.

Kokie Professional Rock Star

Next up, we have another shade gifted from my Mom — this time she brought it back after a trip to the USA, as it’s a brand I’ve never seen here in Canada! This is Kokie Professional Rock Star, a gorgeous sheer purple shimmer. & when I saw sheer, I mean sheer!

Usually with a shade like this, I would layer it over another similar shade, but I wanted to see what it looked like all on its own. The golden shimmer is the first thing that catches your eye, followed by that hint of purple. Not a shade I would usually wear all on it’s own, but I could see myself using it for a negative space-ish design.

Color Club Purple Haze (Oil Slick Collection)

Next up, we have probably one of my most recently purchases shades: Color Club Purple Haze. I found this guy hiding at my local Marshall’s in the clearance bin. The bottle isn’t the prettiest — its covered in a blue polish — which probably explains why it was only $2. The polish itself is a very pretty metallic purple duo-chrome/multi-chrome which shifts to a rose gold in the right light. Formula was easy to apply, if not a bit watery, & it dried down with minimal streakiness, but I blame that on not using the right base coat — I would definitely use a more smoothing base coat next time to give the polish a better base to dry against.

Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Kween (Kylie Signature Collection)

Last up, we have this beautiful vibrant red leaning pink — Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Kween. This shade was one of the many released as part of Sinful Colors collaboration with Kylie Jenner. I’ll be honest, I never really had much of an interest in this collection, mostly because I don’t really get the whole craze around the Kardashians, but when I saw this shade on clearance at my local Lawton’s, I couldn’t deny it was a good price! & you know I can’t say no to a good deal.  The formula itself is nice, & applies easily. The pink is bright & the perfect pedicure pink, which is probably what I’ll end up using it for most. I definitely think this shade needs a glossy of top coat, because I found on its own it dried a little funny.
