The other night I was perusing my Pinterest, browsing through my folder titled “Style Inspiration”, starting to mentally plan some Fall looks (& make a list of clothing I want to add to my closet), & realized that a lot of my personal style can be traced back to the same “muses”. To be honest, while my style has evolved, it hasn’t changed a whole lot over the years.
I thought it might be fun to go through, & share with you guys who I considered my person style inspirations & muses.
Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen

Okay, seeing as I am a child of the 80s, & a teenager of the early 2000s, naturally I grew up with Mary Kate & Ashley as my personal life gurus. We were born months apart, so obviously I went through the same things as them, like boys & Starbucks. My university years were filled discovering my own boho sense of style copied inspired by them, paired with oversized sunglasses & Starbucks cups. We’ve all grown up since then; they’re running multi-million dollar fashion empires now, & their style has evolved to match. Also I would absolutely kill to get my hands on some of the items in their Elizabeth & James Kohl’s collection, but it sadly doesn’t ship to Canada.
Nicole Richie

Again, one of the It Girls on the 2000s, Nicole Richie was one of the boho Fashion queens that defined my early 20s generation. Back in my college years, I was obsessed with her easy going bohemian style, & I love how her style has evolved as she embraced Mom-life (which, of course, I can relate to.) Also, she is totally my purple hair inspiration. I think what I’ve always appreciated about her sense of style is that it is not defined by one particular label; yes, she can pull off the boho look, but then she’ll throw a leather jacket over some leggings & a tshirt, & it’s a whole new vibe. That’s the kind of seemless sense of style I aspire to have.
Keira Knightley

Okay, so I’ve had a style/girl crush on Keira Knightley absolutely forever. The two of us have very similar body shapes, & we’re almost the same height, so I’ve always been able to see myself in her fashion choices; I don’t think she’s ever worn something–on the red carpet, or off–that I’ve not loved. In fact, my love for her is so strong, my originally planned wedding look was based on her own iconic wedding dress. (I mean, that Chanel jacket & dress combo? Amazing!)
Also, I’ve been known to steal a few of her fashion choices as nail art inspiration.
Audrey Hepburn

Even though I consider my style to be a little more boho in nature, & rough around the edges, there is something about Audrey Hepburns classic style that I’ve always adored. I mean, her Givenchy dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s is iconic for a reason. Don’t we all want to wear our favourite little black dressed while drinking coffee at 6am in front of a Tiffany’s? Her inspiration has always been who I’ve looked to for those more serious moments, where maybe a more classic edge is required.
So those are my long adored style muses. Obviously, I’m always discovering new style muses whose style I adore & adding their looks to my Pinterest as well.
