SWATCH POST: Joe Fresh Gel Look polishes

Hello loves, it’s been a while!

For those who don’t follow me on Instagram, I gave birth to our son last week so I’ve been spending the last little while snuggling with little Bubs and being a Mommy (with naked nails!) But I finally got a minute for my nails, which was perfect because I just so happened to receive these brand new Joe Fresh Gel Look polishes to test out!

The colours I received for review  were Cotton Candy, Raspberry Tart and Key Lime Pie. These polishes are designed to last as well as gel polish, without requiring a UV Light, base coat or top coat. As you can see from the release that came along with my polishes, they boast that this polish can last up to 14 days! I’ll have a second post coming where I review the lasting power of the polish to see how long it lasts for me.

For my below swatches, I applied my polish as directed with no base coat and no top coat.

Cotton Candy:

The first thing I noticed about the colours I received was how perfect they are for Spring. Cotton Candy is a soft baby pink that took me  4 coats for complete opacity and no streaks. This colour was the hardest for me to get level, but once I did it looked beautiful. I kind of wish that these polishes came with an accompanying top coat because I feel like it would have levelled better, but even without it still had a nice shine to it. As far as drying, dry time wasn’t immediate, but that could have had something to do with the 4 coats.

Raspberry Tart:

Raspberry Tart is a red leaning hot pink that took 3 coats for total coverage. The first coat was streaky, but the polish started levelling by the second coat and the 3rd coat left the colour perfect. I feel like you can really see the shine with this colour, better than with the pastels. Also, I was a bit scared about the removal, especially lacking a base coat, but it came off quick and easy with no worries about staining.

Key Lime Pie:

Now the colour I was most excited about! Key Lime Pie is a gorgeous pale mint which is the perfect colour for combating the Winter blues. Like Raspberry Tart, it took 3 coats for this polish to level, but with enough practice you could probably get away with 2. This colour seemed to have the best formula of the three polishes I received. Also that colour–I just love this colour. This is the colour I applied to all 10 nails to test out how well the polish wears, so stay tuned for that update.

All in all, I really like these polishes and I think they’re a great take on the gel hybrid polishes that have become so popular, and for an awesome price (only $5!) I will definitely be searching out my local Superstore to find Coral Reef and Blackberry to add to my stash. If I had to say anything that I didn’t really like, it’s that the formula kind of needs a top coat to level out the more pastel polishes without having too many coats but it’s not a deal breaker at all. I’m very curious to see how well these last, so stay tuned for my update on that.

For my fellow Canadian girls looking to find these polishes for themselves, you’ll be able to find these Joe Fresh polishes at your local Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstores where the other Joe Fresh Beauty products are located.

Has anyone else found these polishes or tried them out yet? Which colour catches your eye the most? Let me know in the comments below.
