Simple Rose Accent Nails

Sometimes a polish is so pretty, it doesn’t need much in tens of nail art. That’s how I felt about the combo of CND Vinylux in Dazzling Dance & Nicole by OPI Love Song. It looked so dang pretty on its own I didn’t want to ruin it by overwhelming it with too much. So what would be the perfect simple nail art? Roses of course!

For this manicure I used:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formulas Pink Gel Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • CND Vinylux Dazzling Dance
  • NOPI Love Song
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Pretty Peony
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Bourbon Belle
  • Essie Brides No Grooms
  • Essie First Timer
  • Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Kiwi Bikini
  • Dotting Tool from Bundle Monster
  • Small Nail Art Brush from Bundle Monster

First off, check out the holo glitter in Dazzling Dance! I’ve worn this polish before a couple years ago, but without any undies & it took way too many coats (4+ with visible nail line.) So undies we’re necessary. I picked out NOPI Love Song to bring out the purple undertones. I bet a gray base would be beautiful too.

These roses make me happy. So simple but beautiful. I will never get tired of roses & floral designs in general. They’re just the perfect pop of nail art for when you don’t want (or don’t have time for) something more complex.

My First Franken Polish!

You know something I’ve always wanted to try? Mixing my own Franken polish. For those who don’t know what a Franken polish is, it is a polish you create by mixing two or more polishes together to create a custom shade. I’ve seen a few people I follow on Instagram do this, & I thought it would be fun to try for myself. Plus I had an empty bottle lying around, so how could I not?!

For this Franken I grabbed a few random colours. Originally I thought I’d mix a greyed out white with purple undertones, but the initial mix came out much more lavender so I decided to go with it.

For this Franken I used:

  • Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Hard To Get
  • ORLY Plum Sugar
  • OPI Who You Callin’ Bossy?
  • ORLY Oh Cabana Boy
  • ACO by Ardene Bonne Nuit
  • Nicole By OPI Make A Comet-ment

I can’t really give you an exact “recipe” because I just kept mixing until the colour that came out as perfect (to me). But I love it. It actually goes on perfectly in two coats & just needs a little top coat to smooth out that glitter. I only wish you could see the holo a bit better! It’s definitely subtle, but at least in person you could tell it was there–these pictures don’t show it off at all. Once the sun returns I’ll be interested to see how it comes out under sunny skies.

What do you think of this colour? Have you ever mixed your own Franken colour before? I can see this being very addictive! As though I don’t already own enough polish haha. Also trying to figure out what to name this Franken colour, so if you have any suggestions let me know!

Fairy Dust-ed Half Moons

Happy First Day of May! I hope the weather wher you are is more beautiful than the cloudy grey skies covering Halifax.

I recently refreshed my bottle of China Glaze Fairy Dust & I’m obsessed all over again. I’ve been adding it to all my manicures because the sparkle is just so pretty. I realized I hadn’t done any half moons in quite a while so it felt like a good time for some.

For this manicure, I used:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • OPI Two Timing The Zones
  • OPI Lost My Bikini in Monoloki
  • China Glaze Fairy Dust
  • Paper Hole Reinforcements

So pink & purple is definitely my favourite half moon colour combination. I’ve done it a lot, but it just pairs so well together. 💜💗 & adding the holo glitter of Fairy Dust just improves it even more.

Feel a gradient coming on featuring these colours, with Fairy Dust of course. All gradients just need Fairy Dust, it’s pretty much a requirement.

What’s is your favourite glitter top coat? Obviously my #1 is Fairy Dust but if I had to pick another I would say the Quo By ORLY Matte Glitter Topper or Essie Shine of the Times. If there is one thing almost as beautiful as holo glitters, it’s definitely flakies.

Blue on Blue Heart Accent Nails 💙

What’s your favourite colour to wear on your nails? Mine is definitely blue. For some reason, whenever I’m reaching for polish to paint my nails I’m always immediately drawn to blue. It calls to me.

For this manicure, I used:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • OPI Give Me Space
  • OPI Gelato On My Mind
  • KaylaRayLoves vinyls Tumbling Heart Vinyls

Once again played around with some of my vinyls won from @kaylarayloves on Instagram. These tumbling heart vinyls are lovely, & so easy to use! Definitely check out her shop–she has a great unique selection of vinyls & decals to choose from!

Also loving the combination of Give Me Space & Gelato on My Mind. 💙💙💙 still having fun shopping my own stash. They may not be brand new polishes, but they’re lovely none the less.

What’s your favourite vinyl pattern? I particularly love quatrefoil designs & hearts. Mermaid nails are especially fun in the Summer too. They’re just so pretty & easy to do!

St Patrick’s Day nails with #thenailartsquad

Happy St Patrick’s Day! 🍀

Today I’ve joined with the rest of the girls in #thenailartsquad for some St Patrick’s Day themed nails in honour of today.

The fellow #thenailartsquad members that I joined for this collab are (clockwise from the top):

For my nails, I freehanded clovers on my accent nail using a fitting tool and small nail art brush. Thankfully, baby was sleeping so I had the chance for some real nail art! I was very excited.

The polishes I used for this manicure were:

  • Essie First Timer (light green)
  • YSL  vert d’orient (dark green)
  • Icing Icing on Top (off white)
  • ORLY Bling (holo gold)
  • Butter London Rock Hard top coat.
  • Dotting tool (Bundle Monster) and small nail art brush (Born Pretty Store).

There are few occasions where I pull out green polish, but I always look forward to St Patrick’s Day for some festive green nails. I’m also really happy with my little clovers–I wasn’t quite sure I could pull them off freehand, but I think they turned out pretty cute!

Hope everyone is having a festive day whether it’s with green beer, or–like me–a very green stir fry!
