SWATCH SUNDAY — Rimmel London 619 Pulsating

Happy Swatch Sunday Lovelies! Today I’m throwing it back–way back–to 2010 with my polish choice. I reached deep, deep into my stash & one of the few Rimmel London shades I own: 619 Pulsating. This polish was originally purchased at Zellars (who remembers Zellars?!) during my days working at the Mall. I bought it alongside 660 Climax for like… $1.99 each. I don’t really remember, but I do remember that the colour drew me in, but it was name was what made me buy it.

Does Rimmel London even make nail polish any more? I can’t remember the last time I saw one of their little mini bottles not in the clearance section. The internet is leading me to believe they don’t, which is a shame because these are really nice nail polishes. This was 1 coat for opacity plus top coat to really show some shine (& that shimmer). It’s pretty in the bottle, but once it hits the nail it literally glows. I mean, just look!

Check out that dusty bottle, oh my. 🙈 She’s definitely an oldie, but slapping it on you’d hardly be able to tell. The polish might possibly be thicker, I can’t really remember how it applied 8 years ago, but it’s not a bad thing. It goes on in one coat, & doesn’t look weird so I’ll definitely keep pulling it out again. Especially when I’m feeling something super duper bright.

Gradient Dotticure.

Okay… I’m getting a little bit repetitive with my nail art. I’m still on a dotting kick. This is another manicure which I’ve been wanting to do but hadn’t gotten around to trying it. Since I’ve been playing around with my dotting tools a lot I decided why not give it a try!

The polishes I used for this manicure were:

  • OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.
  • Sinful Colors Thimbleberry.
  • Sinful Colors Island Coral.
  • Rimmel Reggae Splash.
  • Seche Vite Top Coat.

Feeling a little uninspired, nails wise, so time to hit up Pinterest and Random Nail Art to inspired some new manicure ideas. =)

Coral stripes & my first real striping tape manicure.

When I first read about the OMD Nail Art Challenge for this month I got excited. Even though my first attempt at the 30 Day Nail Art challenge kind of crashed and burned, I wanted another attempt at accomplishing a challenge. What I like about this challenge is you don’t have to do it every day. That makes it easier when I want to be able to do something other than the prompt.

Today’s prompt was Coral. As you have seen, I love coral. And I own a lot of coral nail polishes. I also really wanted to attempt something with the striping tape I received for my birthday last year. I’ve played around with it a little bit, but never accomplished a full manicure. So this was my first real attempt using it.

The polishes I used for this manicure were:

  • Sinful Colors Easy Going — creambase color.
  • Quo by ORLY Sugar Cookie — cream base color.
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Coral Reef — stripes.
  • Sinful Colors Island Coral — stripes.
  • Rimmel Salon Pro Reggae Splash — stripes.
  • Essie Go to Go Top Coat.

For a first attempt with striping tape, I’m really happy with the outcome. The lines are definitely cleaner than when I freehand my lines, and I like that I could create thicker lines easier. Of course, it did take much longer to do my nails than it usually does, but that was mostly cutting and applying the tape, and then taking the time to pull it off. But I can definitely see myself using it again.

So what do you think of these coral stripes? I think it’s a great Summer manicure, even though I’m going to spend the majority of my day cleaning and organizing my closet and purging old clothing I never wear. Not the most glamorous way to spend my day off, but it is a great excuse to play dress up! =)

A Peek into My Stash — Part Two.

Today I have for you the second part of my stash posts. After this, I’ll only have one more drawer of my five to photograph. Even though it’s been a bit of work taking pictures of everything, and writing them down, I’m really glad that I have. Now, whenever I’m feeling nail art, I’ll know exactly what polishes I have to work with!
And now onto the polishes…

More gradient fun!

The other day my friend Jenn came over, and let me do her nails. We had talked about it in advance, and she told me she wanted me to create something “professional but fun”. In the end we decided to go with a gradient. I haven’t done a lot of manicures and nail art on other people–with the exception of my roommate. But it was really fun to do, and she really liked them so I was glad.

For this manicure, I used Rimmel’s Reggae Splash as my base color, and China Glaze Thataway as my tip color. They two really compliment each other, I think–and Thataway has a very subtle shimmer in it which gives it a little extra something. I’m really glad she liked them, because I really love how they turned out. It was a little weird doing someone else’s nails, if only because her nail beds are so tiny! But I think this was definitely a nail art success.
