Unicorn Inspired Gradient 🦄

So by now you’ve probably been introduced to the Unicorn Frappuccino that Starbucks released yesterday. I know it completely blew up my Instagram & Facebook feeds… everyone & their grandma was showing off the drink on social media. Personally I have no interest in trying it–not a fan of frapuccinos (too much sugar), I can’t have any dairy so no whip cream, & there isn’t even any coffee in it! But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to join in the unicorn fun, so I took inspiration from the colours of the drink to create a Unicorn inspired gradient!

For this manicure, I used:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Orchid Around
  • Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Royal Hue
  • China Glaze Fairy Dust
  • Latex Free cosmetic sponge (purchased at Dollarama)
  • Born Pretty Store Peel off Liquid Tape

It’s been so long–too long–since I played around with a gradient, so I’m a little rusty. But I’m pretty happy with how these turned out. The colours might not exactly match its inspiration, but I thought it was a good attempt. It would have been more fun if I had one of those cute unicorn stencils (I think they’re by Twinkled-T) to add a holo glitter unicorn on my ring finger, but with a little Fairy Dust added it still has that magical feel.

Have you tried Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino yet? Does it taste as magical as it looks? Part of me wants to order one just to take a picture of it with my nails (because I’m silly like that) but that would be a serious waste of money that could be better spent (on coffee, for example). Oh well, when you can’t drink it, why not wear it in your nails!

What do you think of this gradient? Do you see the inspiration? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! 🦄

Easter Mini Egg Nails

Is there anything more Easter-y than  Cadbury Mini Eggs? Well, I mean back in the day when they only came out at Easter. Sadly my lactose intolerance has come back since having the little one, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still love those delicious chocolate eggs (it just means I can eat them.) & since I won’t be enjoying them in my Easter basket this year, I thought I would continue the tradition of recreating them again on my nails. (I did mini egg nails previously in 2015 here & 2016 here

For this mani, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat Base Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • Matte Top Coat: L’Oréal the Matte Velvet top coat.
  • China Glaze Sun Upon My Skin
  • Hard Candy Sky
  • OPI Getting Nadi On My Honeymoon
  • Revlon Minted
  • Nubar New Mood
  • Essie Cocoa Karma
  • Wet N Wild 2% Milk
  • Crinkled Up Plastic Wrap

I’ve been doing these nails every year and I love how each time year turn out differently depending on the polishes and techniques used. I also think it’s because they’re just so easy to do, but it looks fantastic & just the right amount of festive! But fair warning: they will make you crave chocolate mini eggs. & if you can’t eat chocolate that could become problematic. Haha.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Spring Essentials: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat Review

Winter finally seems to be leaving us, the days feeling a little bit warmer, which means it’s time to refresh my nails! Bitter cold Winter days can be rough on your nails, making them brittle, so sometimes you need a little help bringing them back to life.

I was sent Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat to review, and I was excited to try out this base coat. I’ve used their Hot Coral Gel Coat Color Polish before & I was really impressed with how strong it made my nails feel! So when given the chance to try out this base coat, I couldn’t wait to see if it would give my nails some new life after a long winter!

Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat is available to buy at Sephora for $30 It can be worn either on its own, or as a base coat under your manicure. The ingredients are designed to strengthen your nails while simultaneously protecting them from breaks. The pink tinge also brightens the nail, which can cover any discolouration.

Neon Cactus nails.

Cactus nails 🌵 are having a moment right now on Instagram, so I decided to join in & create my own version. I originally did cactus nails last year, which can be found here. With my design from last year, my personal complaint was my base colour was too dark, so this time I wanted to go with something brighter. And what is brighter than neon pink!

For this manicure, I used:

  • China Glaze Hang Ten Toes
  • Sally Hansen I ♥️ Nail Art pen in Green
  • Essie First Timer
  • Essie Off Tropic
  • Essie Stylenomics
  • Essie Peach Daquri
  • Essie Haute As Hello
  • Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • Small nail art brush from this set by Bundle Monster.

Have you jumped on the cactus nail art trend yet? I absolutely love cacti. When my son was born, I didn’t wanted flowers, I wanted my mum to bring me a cactus (which is pictured above). The little guy also has a little cactus onesie that is too cute, and I’m planning on filling our house with a few more plants too! I’m a little obsessed.

And just for fun (because I’m so obsessed with this mani I couldn’t stop taking pictures), a shot of both hands:

What do you think of this mani? Are you as obsessed as I am? Let me know in the comments below!

Pretty in Pink Drag Marble nails.

It may be the second week of Spring, but it certainly does not feel like it here on the East Coast. Oh how I long for warm sunshine-y days & pretty sun dresses. So in the meantime, I guess I’ll just have to make due with channeling Spring on my nails! For today’s mani, I decided to continue my trend of pulling forgotten shades from the stash by choosing a few favourites from years past.

For this manicure, I used:

  • Essie Lounge Lover
  • Essie The Girls Are Out
  • Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • Drag Marble Stencils from The Base Coat.

I just love love love how these colours compliment each other! The Girls Are Out has always been one of those colours I forget how much I love until I pull it out again. I picked it up a couple years ago for $3 at the Dollarama, and instantly fell in love.  The flecks of glitter are so pretty, & pairing it with Lounge Lover’s soft pinky coral really brightens up the whole mani! These two colours with the drag marble pattern really remind me of a beach ball, or something equally Summer-y.

Spring fashion may feel like forever away, but my nails are definitely ready with these vibrant chevrons! I’m currently away on a mini family vacation to Northern New Brunswick where there is currently 4 feet of snow, so I definitely need some brightness in my life.

What do you think of this mani–what are your favourite shades to pair together to brighten up your days? Let me know in the comments below.
