Gold & Plum Splatter Nails

Hello lovelies & happy Tuesday! A beautiful Autumn Tuesday at that.

Today I’m showing off yet another fun splatter look, this time inspired by a tutorial by @nailsdnt on Instagram. She used a stamper & cuticle oil to achieve a fun bubbly splatter look, & as soon as I saw her tutorial I knew I needed to give it a try! I just love a good splatter design, & this seemed like such an easy way to achieve it.

The polishes I used for this manicure are:

  • Base Coat: Essie Hard To Resist Glow & Shine
  • Top Coat: Essie Gel Setter
  • Matte Top Coat: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Matte Top Coat
  • Color Club Twice Bitten
  • L’Oreal Feeling Kilty
  • Nailstuff.ca clear stamper
  • Revlon Cuticle Oil

So obviously, first thing is first: I apologize for my weird cuticle area. Between an older top coat, & some weird matte top coat effect, it kind of gave me a messy finish. I’m definitely due for a new bottle of top coat.

Second, as you can see my nails did turn out pretty cool, although there are some differences between my splatter finish & the original design. While the original tutorial used a nail cuticle pen, I chose to use my bottle of Revlon cuticle oil, which I think lead to too much oil on the stamper. Her’s had more of a bubbly effect, while mine reminds me more a classic splatter.

But either way I love the end result. It’s so pretty! & the matte top coat just makes it look even more beautiful — I think the matte top coat just completes the look.

What do you think about this look? Are you enjoying these splatter nails I’ve been wearing lately? Let me know down in the comments below.

Favourite Winter Nail Care Products

If you’re a nail polish addict, then you probably know in order to keep your nails looking good (& picture ready!) you need to make sure you take extra care. Moisturizer & cuticle oil are a regular part of my daily routine, but when the months get colder I need to take extra extra extra care of my nails. So I thought it would be fun to show you an updated version of my winter nail care routine that I feel is really keeping my nails healthier & my cuticles looking great. I would definitely credit these items for the reason why this has been the best winter yet for me in terms of my nail & cuticle shape.

My Nail Care Routine featuring Mont Bleu

It’s been a really long time since I posted a nail care post, & since I’ve recently incorporated some new products I’m in love with, I thought I would share what I do for nail care. For me, I like to do my full nail care routine once a week but I obviously file & moisturizer more often than that.

Recently I was sent some products from Mont Bleu to review. They produce Czech made crystal nail files & other nail care products. For review, I received a three piece crystal nail set, crystal cuticle pusher & cuticle scissors. I’ve always been a major fan of crystal nail files, but it wasn’t until I started using the Mont Bleu products I realized what a difference good quality product can have!

For my nail care routine, after removing my nail polish with nail polish remover I always start off by giving my nails a good file. If I only need to tidy up my nails a little I use the medium sized filed from Mont Bleu. If I need to trim any considerable length from my nails, I prefer to use the larger size. (The mini sized file from the set I keep in my purse for potential nail emergencies!) I’ve used crystal nail files for years, but these are a step above. I find they file so easily & smoothly & leave my tips feeling much smoother. I’ve been using these files for over a month now, & they have made a huge difference in the health of my nails. They don’t leave any cracks at my tips which I’ve found can happen with other files I’ve used. Also when it comes to filing down significant length, these files do it in less than half the time of other files I’ve used.

Next step, I used a good cuticle remover. Right now I’m loving Butter London Melt Away which I find is gentle but effective. I start by applying it along my cuticles, & then push back my cuticles gently using the Mont Bleu glass cuticle pusher before rinsing them off. This was my first time using a glass cuticle pusher & I was nervous because glass ( & the edges feel kind of sharp to the touch) but this pusher is surprisingly gentle. It doesn’t take much pressure at all to push back your cuticles, unlike using my previous rubber pusher. Also I was happy to see it cleaned & washed easily without being ruined by the product. Next, I always make sure to apply cuticle oil after using remover & pushing them back.

Next I like to use a good hand/cuticle scrub on my nails. My Mom gave me this Mary Kay scrub years ago, & I’m still using it. I tend to concentrate on my nails/cuticles with it so I don’t end up using a lot of product. (If you have any recommendations for some good cuticle scrubs, let me know!)

Next step of my routine is to clip off any loose skin/potential hang nails. I don’t snip my actual cuticles, but I do make sure to clip off any spots that are potential problem areas. These cuticle scissors are great because they’re sharp & precise. They’re also the perfect scissors for applying nail decals, which I’ll have a post showing soon!

Final step? Moisturizer moisturizer moisturizer! The bottle I’m showing above is a mixture of a whole slew of creams I like including Vaseline Healthy Hands & Nails, Vaseline Intensive Care Advance Care, & even some of my sons baby cream! I make sure to always have cream on me or near me, and apply it as much as possible.

So that’s my nail care routine! Like I said I only do the full routine about once a week but I make sure to file my nails a few times a week, & moisturize & oil my nails daily.

If you’re looking for some quality nail care products, you should definitely check out the products offered by Mont Bleu. I thought that all crystal nail files were the same, but after using these products I know now that is definitely not true! In the month I’ve added these products to my routine, there has been a great change in my nails. On top of that, the product itself is just gorgeous! Favorite Fall and Winter pretty nail essentials.

Whoops!

I never meant to take such a big break from blogging, but life kind of got in the way. While I still was painting my nails and posting to my Instagram, getting the energy to blog was another thing. However, I’m really going to take some time to get back into the swing of things again, and catch up on blogging.

Since the weather is now officially starting to feel much chiller, I thought I would share my Fall and Winter essentials. I don’t know about you but between the chilly days and working in retail my hands can get in rough shape. There for, I have a bevvy of products I used to just to keep ahead of rough looking cuticles and dry, dry skin.

Now, I’m sure everyone has there own routine and products that work for them. These are just the ones I use, and I like (at the moment). Things are always changing, and I’m always discovering new and awesome products that I fall in love with.

These are my on-the-go purse essentials:

Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream, and Hand Cream.

I discovered Burt’s Bees Cuticle Cream last winter, and it seriously saved my cuticles during a seriously harsh winter. Not only does it smell amazing, but it makes you cuticles feel amazing and keeps them soft. Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream is actually one of my favorite products for everything–I used it not just on my hands and cuticles, but as a lip balm as it infuses everything with a serious splash of moisture. It’s great and if you’ve never tried it, you must! And finally my last purse essential is hand cream. I usually carry at least two or three different hand creams on me at all times. Above is OPI Avojuice, which smells so good, and feels so good!

My at-home essentials:

Vaseline Healthy Hand and Nail, Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go, Witchcraft Cuticle Oil.

When it comes to my favorite at home products, I have a few I use nightly. Vaseline Healthy Hand and Nail is my all time favorite hand cream ever. (I also keep a small bottle of it in my purse as well, and a bottle at work). I’ve been using it for over a year, and I love how soft it leaves my hands. It’s also improved my nail health a lot in the time I’ve been using it. My nails definitely feel stronger. Next is my Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go which I purchased from my local Chatters after hearing good reviews online. It smells so good–I’m not sure exactly what the smell is, but it’s fruity and fresh and I love it. I apply it and my Witchcraft Cuticle Oil every night before bed, and I find I’ve had a lot less issues with hang nails or dry cuticles since I started using both together.

So these are just a couple of my favorites. I know everyone has there favorites, and I am always up for new product suggestions so if you have any that you adore, let me know! (I’ve been hearing good things about Bliss Kiss Simply Pure Cuticle & Nail Oil, so I think that is going to be one of my next purchases.)

Have a great day lovelies!
