FASHION FRIDAY — Coffee Shop OOTD

Hello lovelies & happy Friday! Also happy second edition of my new feature, Fashion Friday.

I was so happy to see people embracing my new content direction as this is something I’ve really been debating doing for a few years now, but was honestly scared to start. I have so many fun ideas I can’t wait to share with you guys coming up! & please don’t hesitate to share anything you’d like to see me cover. I’m really hoping for this Friday feature to be a really approachable look at Fashion, & a lot of what I share is you going to be me delving into my own closet & the items I own & love. I have this sentimental attachment to clothing (& the memories associated) that I hope you guys will enjoy reading about as much as I love writing about.

First up though, how about a good old fashioned outfit of the day!

Moneau Pineapple Summer Dress. Danier black turtleneck sweater. Not Pictured: Black tights. Nine West Deep green knee high boots.

Okay, so I love dresses. Like REALLY love dresses. From May to October, you can rarely catch me wearing pants. But being that it’s the middle of January in Canada, it’s not so easy for me to just throw on a dress. However, lately when I’m not in the mood for another day of jeans & sweaters, I’ve really been into laying long sleeves & thinner sweaters under my favourite dresses (along with a pair of tights, or two.) It quite honestly is the easiest way to take a Summer dress you love, & winterize it.

This Danier turtleneck has been in my collection a very, very long time (like 2009-ish) & I had completely forgotten how cute it looks under spaghetti strap dresses (& even tanks) like this. This outfit was my Family Coffee Date OOTD, & it made me feel so cute & so put together when I went out. My only complaint? I wish I had a cute little belt to empahsize my waist (this dress is a little bit big on me) but I just found a couple of my favourite cincher belts (including a black one that would be perfect with this look) that I’ll be able to pull out next time.

What do you think about this look? Do you find ways to Winterize your favourite fashion items so that you can wear them all year long? Let me know your secrets down in the comments below!

Hearts & Zig Zags

You know when you get a nail art look in your head & you want to try & make it work on your nails… there is nothing more satisfying than bringing it to life & it turning out better than you expected!

This look was one I wanted to try but I wasn’t sure what colours to go with. Thanks to some Pinterest stalking, I figured out exactly the colour combination I wanted! I wanted something that would fit my January mood, especially since I didn’t want my nails to look too Valentine-y.

For this manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Essie Grow Stronger
  • Top Coat: Essie Speed Setter
  • Ardene Day Dreamer
  • Essie Mint Candy Apple
  • Quo by ORLY Diva
  • Quo by ORLY Breathable Fairy Godmother
  • The Base Coat Regular Chevron/Zig Zag Vinyls
  • The Base Coat Heart Vinyls
  • NailStuff.ca dotting tool set

I seriously think these turned out so, so cute! It feels like absolute ages since I pulled out my Vinyls & I have to admit… I missed them. I also love this combination of dark teal, grey & mint. I never know what colours to wear on my nails this time of year, but darker shades are definitely calling my name more often!

What do you think of this look?

You could definitely adapt it & turn it into a Valentine’s Day look with some pink & red polishes. & it was surprisingly easy (if a little bit time consuming) to do. ♥️

Subtle Winter Ruffian ❄️

Good morning lovelies, & welcome to the second week of 2019! How crazy is that. Has everyone kept up with their New Year’s resolutions so far? I’m trying to keep up with mine & I have brand new nails to share with you.

Today I’m showing off this subtle ruffian design I wore last week. I was still feeling the darker moody shades & I really like the combination of these two polishes. Originally I thought about a dotticure because they’re so easy, but after stalking Pinterest (my favourite late night activity) & ended up being inspired to go with a ruffian.

For this design, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Essie Grow Stronger
  • Top Coat: Essie Gel Couture Top Coat
  • Essie Cashmere Bathrobe
  • Essie Suite Retreat

I love how this looks! The blue with the grey has that moody January vibe I think everyone is feeling after the holidays. I don’t know about anyone else, but I find it so difficult trying to come up with nail art looks this time of year… Christmas is over, it’s too soon for Valentine’s Day.

Also please excuse my weird lighting… I’ve been taking pictures at work haha. But I have my light box all set up again so I should be able to get some better pictures soon. I just have to remember to take them before I leave for work.

What do you think of this nail art look? What is your favourite January nail art look? Share your ideas down below on what you go-to this time of year!

Winter Essentials with Shoppers Drug Mart!

Hello lovelies, it’s been WAY too long. Sorry for my impromptu hiatus… October & November have been insane for me & I haven’t had a free minute to breathe, let alone paint my nails & write a post. But I’m finally getting a free minute & super excited to share with you some PR goodies I received from Shoppers Drug Mart. They sent me a box featuring a whole bunch of Winter essential items, & since my hands were feeling VERY rough, I couldn’t wait to get a chance to take some “me” time & spoil myself a little.

Included in my PR box was 5 Quo by ORLY Breathable shades, a nourishing hand mask by Life Brand & an adorable statement ring from Joe Fresh. The Quo shades you see are Aloe, Goodbye!, Grateful Heart, Sheer Luck, Soul Sister, & Kiss Me I’m Kind.

Winter Chevron Moons

Hello & Happy Tuesday! Sorry for the lack of posts this weekend–it was kind of a rough weekend & my motivation for posting took a hit. (Also I noticed the majority of my last post disappeared & I’ve been too frustrated thinking about having to rewrite it so I’ve been avoiding the blog. My bad.) But today I have a brand new post with something that has been seriously lacking in my life lately: chevron moons!

I’m calling these winter chevron moons because… it sounds cool? The colours just kind of give me that Winter vibe, so I thought it worked. Also I figured everyone might want to see something other than snowflakes.

For this manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Nailtek 2 Foundations
  • Top Coat: Seche Vive
  • Nubar Queen
  • Essie Parka Perfect
  • OPI My Favourite Ornament
  • URSUGAR Chevron Nail Stencils (I used the inner pieces.)

I love the combination of the pale blue, deep purple & sparkly gold. I thought this colour combo was a nice switch up from all the Christmas-y designs I’ve been doing, & features two of my favourite winter polishes: Essie Parka Perfect & OPI My Favourite Ornament. Every Christmas, this gold has to come out because the sparkle is just so perfect. ✨

For me, Christmas/Winter nails are all about the sparkle. These aren’t your typical holiday nails, but I think they would look fantastic with a pretty dress at a Christmas/New Year’s party, especially if you don’t want to resort to the classic Christmas shades. It’s all about the sparkle that makes it perfect. I’m so obsessed with Christmas party looks right now because I have no Christmas party of my own to go to. I just keep coming up with looks I would wear if I had somewhere to go (& then imagine what fancy dress sitting in my closet I would pair with it.)

Christmas Tree Branch Nails 🎄

December is speeding by & I’m seriously attempting to fully embrace everything about the Christmas season.Have you put up your tree yet? We’ve been meaning to the last couple days, but still haven’t managed to… sadly I’m allergic to pretty much all trees so we have to stick to an artificial tree. But I did go out & buy a Christmas tree scented candle so the house would smell somewhat seasonal. 🎄 I also decided to create some Christmas tree inspired nails & oh my I’m so in love with how they turned out!

<<<<<<<<<<<>
For this manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Nailtek Foundation 2
  • Top Coat: Seche Vive
  • Essence Give Me Nude, Baby!
  • Sally Hansen I ♥️ Nail Art Pen in Green
  • Essence The Green & The Grunge
  • Essie Stylenomics
  • Essie Butler Please
  • L’Oréal Carmin Parisien
  • China Glaze Metro Pollen-tin
  • Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Hard To Get
  • Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Black Heart
  • Bundle Monster Detail Nail Art Brush

Sometimes I get really excited about how a manicure turns out & this is one of those times. This isn’t the first Christmas Tree/Tree Branch manicure I’ve attempted, but it’s definitely the best I’ve ever done. I’m just so beyond in love with how it turned out.

I love that you can see the individual needles on my “branches”. It reminds me of our own sparse little artificial Christmas tree. True story: it’s the same tree my parents used when I was a kid, & the box still has the K-mart sticker on it from when it was purchased. & K-mart left Canada in 1998 I believe, so this tree is at least 20 years old. Haha. But it’s okay because it’s well loved, full of memories & is still going strong all these years later.

Silver Snowflakes ❄️

Is it too early for snowflakes? Probably (& I’m definitely not trying to encourage Mother Nature in any way) but my few Christmas/Winter plates were sitting on my desk the other night looking so lonely so I decided maybe some snowflakes would be pretty.

I do a variation of this design pretty much every year, with varying levels of success haha. I love how it looks a bit like wrapping to me. Honestly, the only time I like snow is between December 20th & January 2nd, or when it’s painted on my nails.

For my manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Essie Grow Stronger
  • Top Coat: Seche Vive
  • Zoya Yves
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Buffalo Nickel
  • Born Pretty Store Clear Jelly Stamper
  • Born Pretty Store Snowflake Stamping plate (no longer available) — this one (also Born Pretty) could be a good alternative.
  • Edge Perfective Cuticle Barrier

I was really impressed with how well Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Buffalo Nickel stamped. I find metallic shades can be so hit or miss when it comes to how well they stamp, but it turned out awesome! I thought about adding a bit of glitter in the middle of my snowflakes, but decided against it just in case I hated how it looked.

We’re slowly creeping into the holiday season. We were at the grocery store yesterday & you could already hear Christmas carols being played! Trying my best to like Christmas this year, especially because it’s baby’s first Christmas (& my husband’s absolute favourite holiday!) so wish me luck. Maybe if I do enough Christmas manicures, it will subconsciously make me love it?

What do you think of these snowflakes? Do you think it’s too early for Snowflake/Christmas/Winter designs? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
