Navy & Bronze Dry Brush

Hello lovelies & happy Tuesday! Hope everyone has a lovely start to their week so far. Today I’ve got another nail art technique to share with you (that I haven’t done in a while): dry brush!

Dry brush is such an easy technique that anyone can do. It’s a great option if you can’t quite figure out what to do on your nails— which is exactly what I was going through the other night when preparing to do my nails. I just love how the way you layer the polishes overtop of each other can create such a fun & unique look!

For this manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails
  • Top Coat: Essie Speed Setter
  • L’Oréal Le Vernis a L’Huile Bleu Royal
  • Essie Ballet Slippers
  • Essie Spice It Up
  • Essie Cliffhanger
  • Essie Leggy Legend
  • Sally Hansen MG Black-y O
  • NailStuff.ca Gold Metallic Flakes (COFFEE10 to save 10%)
  • NailStuff.ca Dotting Tool Trio

Look at that dry brush layering! I added some fun gold foil over top to complete my look, but dry brush is definitely a fun beginner design because it doesn’t require any nail art tools! You can just use whatever polish you have on hand. & the colour combinations are absolutely endless—you can do one for every season, or holiday. Also you can let it dry a bit so the colours don’t blend too much, or brush them together to create a fun almost watercolour effect. I love doing both!

What do you think of the dry brush nail art technique? How do you feel about this Autumn colour scheme? Let me know all your thoughts down in the comments below!

SWATCH SUNDAY—China Glaze Choo Choo Choose You

Happy Sunday everyone! Can you believe it–the first week of October is finished–how crazy is that? It also means we’ve got our first Swatch for October & today I went with an older Fall polish that I just absolutely love: China Glaze Choo Choo Choose You.

If you’ve been around the blog for a while, you might remember I posted this polish over 5 years ago, so if you’re in the mood for some hilarious throwback, definitely check out that old post.

& now for an update swatch post for this gorgeous shade.

For my swatches, I did my usual base coat, applied two coats of colour, & finished off with my go to top coat (Essie Speed Setter). Looking at my pictures though, I probably should have done three, because I can see a bit of nail line peeking through. The base is this Smokey grey, with a gorgeous bronze-y shimmer that transforms depending on which was you move your hand, with even the occasional flash of green.

It’s very pretty.

For a 5 year old polish, the formula on this one is still as good as the day I bought it. The first coat goes on a bit streaky, as most polishes like this do, but you have almost complete opacity on the second coat. & shorter nails could definitely get away with just two, I just think it’s longer nails that might need 3 for full coverage.

& naturally because I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between China Glaze Cowboy Bye (from the Gone West collection) & Choo Choo Choose You, I needed to pair the two side by side. Obviously Cowboy Bye has that beautiful holo scattered glitter, but I feel like the two bases of the shades are very very similar, which could explain why I love Cowbye Bye so much.

Hello lovelies & happy Wednesday! Today I have another manicure to share with you for the August Glam Nails Challenge! Today’s prompt is Mermaid, which is always a fun design to do. Sadly, I’ve run out of my mermaid pattern nail vinyls, so I decided to stamp my scale pattern onto my nail, since I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to freehand them.

I had a pretty specific idea in my mind of what I wanted this manicure to look like, & unfortunately I didn’t have an actual mermaid scale stamping plate, so I went through the plates I do have to find the one which would work best!

For this manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Strengthening Base Coat
  • Base Coat: Quo by ORLY Bonder
  • Top Coat: Essie Gel Couture Top Coat
  • Essence Across the Universe
  • Essence Mermaid of the Galaxy
  • Essence Guardians of the Unicorn
  • Essence Space Glam
  • Essence Intergalactic Adventure

Please excuse the remaining mess around my cuticles. I forgot to use my cuticle barrier because I was rushing, & trying to clean up the polish on my fingers was tricky. That’s what you get when you try for a nap time manicure & want to get your nails done before the babes wake up!

But even if my cuticles aren’t perfect, I’m still so in love with how this manicure turned out! The Essence Out Of Space Stories polishes work so well for this fantasy type design. Especially with the duo/multichrome finishes they have.

Posing with my mermaid nail art brush because it’s the only mermaid-y item I think I own. I feel like even though I didn’t use a traditional mermaid image, they still came out very mermaid-esque. I actually think I like this pattern even better!

Gorgeous Galaxy Nails 🌌

Hello lovelies & happy Thursday! Today I have what might possibly be my favourite & most gorgeous nail art ever to share with you.

Today’s look is a galaxy design, which I haven’t done in over two years! After browsing all my duo & multichrome polishes (while thinking about my favourite Fall shades), I decided it would be fun to pair a few in a galaxy design. 🌌 & oh boy did it turn out beautiful!

For this manicure, the polishes I used were:

  • Base Coat: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Strengthening Base Coat
  • Top Coat: Essie Gel Couture Top Coat
  • Essie Spun in Luxe
  • Quo by ORLY Breathable Power Packed
  • Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure
  • FingerPaints Surreal Sunset
  • FingerPaints Hues Blue
  • Claire’s Venomous
  • Claire’s Poison Apple
  • Claire’s Chromance
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Get Mod
  • Nailstuff.ca Mermaid Tail detail brush
  • Nailstuff.ca Dotting Tool
  • Latex Free Make Up Sponge (ripped into small pieces)
  • Tweezers

Look at the close up & those glitters! How gorgeous! It really does look like some far off galaxy.

I always forget how easy Galaxy nails can be until I start doing them. I love the fat they don’t have to be perfectly crafted, you kind of just go in with your collection of colours & see how they turn out, maybe adding some polka dots for stars. I actually created a tutorial for galaxy nails in the very early days of my blog which can be found here. I will definitely say that the longer your nails are, the better your galaxies will turn out.

Again, just check out that close up action & those glitters! Have you ever seen anything more beautiful? I’m just so, so happy with how this design turned out. Which, let’s be honest you can probably tell because I took about 1000 pictures of this look to share!

I just can’t stop staring… why has it taken me so long to do another galaxy design? I never want to take these off!

So what are we thinking about these galaxy nails?

Do you have favourite polishes for creating a galaxy look?
