From the forgotten stash — Icing’s Romantic/Relaxed.

Today I have another polish from my forgotten stash with you–and another “mood” polish! Like I stated in my other Claire’s mood polish, I was quite obsessed with these when they first came out, as I had never witnessed a thermal polish before so these left me in awe. Now that I have my Mood polishes back, I’m definitely going to have to go on a search to find more for my collection.

Today’s polish is Romantic/Relaxed from Icing’s Mood Swing polishes.

Romantic/Relaxed is a pink metallic polish with is scattered through out (while cold) which transforms into a gold polish when it is hot. I’d call the darker version of this polish (which I believe is the “romantic” part) almost a blush. The color is very pretty, and subtle and the gold shimmer scattered through out is gorgeous. It also dries to almost a satin finish, but I added top coat to help the polish last longer (and cause–I top coat all my manicures.)

The magic happens, though, when you hands start to warm up. (And this is why I love this polish SO much) Suddenly your polish goes from a blushy pink to a full on pale gold shimmer. I know I’ve heard some people online in swatches of this polish say they weren’t too keen on the either color, but I think both are beautiful.

I was so much more impressed with the change on these as opposed to my Claire’s Mood polishes which I didn’t see as much of a difference while swatching. Icing’s Romantic/Relaxed seems completely unaffected from it’s time spent in a box in the attic.

Overall, I really, really love this polish. My only complaint is neither Icing nor Claire’s carries any of their Mood polishes anymore. I really wish they would bring them back because I can guarantee I would purchase every single color they released.  Thermal polish seems to be a popular trend that isn’t slowing down, and now that I’ve been playing with the few that I have I need MORE!

My first sucessful chevron moons!

I have a really, really exciting manicure to share with you all today.

As I’ve mentioned before, I love a good chevron, but I’ve never been very good with creating chevrons with tape as something always seems to go wrong. However I found a foolproof way to create chevron moons, and I’m a very happy girl. I also documented the process so I could share with you my easy tutorial on how to create these chevrons if you–like myself–have trouble getting tape manicures to work the way you want. =)

Pure Ice — Get in Line.

I’m really trying hard to wear more colors from my stash, and today I have an untried for you that I have had sitting in my stash for the last year, but I haven’t played with (or, even tried on to see how it looked.) I guess that’s what happens when you have almost 300 polishes. I don’t know what girls that have 1000+ polishes!

This is Pure Ice in Get in Line. I picked it up last Spring when I first noticed the collection in my local Wal-mart, however I believe it must be part of the permanent collection because I’ve still noticed it as part of the display. I was drawn to the frosty turquoise leaning blue color, and slightly metallic quality of it. In person it’s much more turquoise, but my camera brings out the blue-ness of them–as you can see.

The application was pretty good. The polish goes on fairly smoothly, but it’s also pretty thin. It took three coats for opacity, and there are some noticeable brush strokes. Now that I’ve worn this polish, I like it but not as much as I thought I would. The one thing the color does remind me of is the movie Frozen–the frosty blue color just seems very fitting.

Sadly the sun has decided to hide now–we have rain in the forcast for the next week, which means that my polish is forced to be shine-less for the next little while. Sad times.

Nail Art Fail.

The other night, I painted my nails with an old favorite — Hard Candy’s Piece of Papaya.

Such a pretty polish, and so sparkly. Since we’re finally getting Spring now in Nova Scotia, I’ve been embracing the sunshine with polishes that shine better in it.

I painted these before bed. When I woke up in the morning I had an idea for some cool nail art. Unfortunately, I decided to paint them about ten minutes before I had to leave for work. It was a bad idea. I should have just left my nails as they were because–even with my quick dry top coat, and drying drops–I didn’t have enough time for them to dry before I had to leave. And that’s where the nail art fail happened.

This picture is from right after I painted them. I used Revlon’s I’m Electro for the Blue, and Quo by Orly in Purple Passion (which I got from my boyfriend in the Quo by Orly Holiday Mini pack.)

Hadn’t even left yet, and already bumped them and got dents. Also because I was short on time I was just going to wait until I got to work for clean up. I didn’t even have time to take it off because I now had about two minutes before I had to leave. So I hoped for the best.

By the time I got to work they were just a full on hot mess. =( I had to go through my day with gashes like this in my nails & both my thumbs had half the polish just peel off. So depressing because I liked the color blocking look of them.

Have you ever had a major nail art fail? I think I’ve learned my lesson about painting my nails without adequate time for them to dry before I have to do anything. Now I know why I paint them before bed. =(

Spiderman… Spiderman… Nail Art!

So I don’t know if you knew this, but The Amazing Spiderman 2 comes out this weekend. I’m a total superhero girl–although I am more of a DC girl than Marvel. That being said, I wanted to mark my excitement over the new movie in the best way I know how–nail art.

This manicure was inspired by the Nailasaurus, and her amazing Spiderman nails. For my version, however, I started with a gradient. I painted my nails first with Revlon’s Spidey Sense, which is from their limited edition The Amazing Spiderman 2 Electric Chrome collection. Then, using a make up sponge, I created a gradient with Super-Powered, also from the Electric Chrome collection.

Next, I went through with my Stripe Rite Striping Polish in Black, and created my web on each nail.

Tada! Amazing Spiderman nails. And probably the only time you will ever see anything related to Spiders on my nails… ever. I am not a big Spider fan, but for Spiderman I will make an exception. =) I topped it with a layer of Essence Gel-look top coat, followed by Essence Nail Art Express Dry drops, to speed up the process. They definitely seem to help with the drying process, thank god. No more sheet marks for this girl.
